I promised to explain the poll below. The other night, Josh went out to play tennis without me. He asked what I thought I would do while he was gone. I said I thought I might call my parents. He very thoughtfully got the phone and set it next to me on the bed. Later when he got back, he asked me if I had called my parents. I said "no." He said, "Okay, then I'll put away the phone" (emphasis mine). I argued that putting away the phone really doesn't follow from me saying I hadn't called my parents... that putting away the phone might follow from me saying I had called my parents, but since it was a yes or no question, if he was going to put away the phone regardless, then there shouldn't have been any "then" in his statement. He argued that I might have responded, "I ate the phone", and if I had, then he wouldn't have put it away. We proceeded to argue about whether or not "I ate the phone" is a valid response to the question, "Did you call your parents?" and he asked me to post a poll to find out if people in LJ-land felt that it was a valid response. I guess I must have lost the arguement, as more people ate the phone than called their parents. All I can say is that I feel very sorry for those 5 people who must have horrible tummy aches at this point, and no way to call their mommies for advice on what to do about it. We can guess, however, that she would probably tell them to go to bed. :-)
