I am pre-approved to apply for a new credit card. I wonder what kind of record you have to have for them to deny you the opportunity to apply...

I'm actually also kind of curious as to what you'd have to do to be forced to get store credit cards/gas station cards/etc. Having very little credit history, I was able to get a $5k limit high-frills credit card. I had always heard that you frequently had to get limited credit cards (as in not-Visa/MC/AmEx/etc) to particular stores to show that you're a good credit investment. ::shrugs::

I think that's something people continue to say even though it hasn't been true for 10-20 years. The credit market changed in the 1980s and 1990s.
