We went out shopping this morning. We got a guest book pen... which isn't exactly what we wanted, but will be good enough if we don't find anything better. Then we did recycling and went to a mens formalwear outlet store looking for wedding shoes for Josh, but they didn't have any mens shoes in white, or cream, or champaign. Then we went to the Jewel-Osco that was on the way home for groceries. Normally we don't go to Jewel-Osco (aka Albersens) because Josh thinks it's more expensive, but it was on the way home so we decided to give them a try, and also we've been wanting decaf chai and the grocery stores we normally go to Dominick's (aka Vons, aka Safeway) and Food4Less don't carry decaf chai. Anyway, it turns out that Jewel-Osco had a far better selection of ethnic foods than the other grocery stores. We found decaf chai (of several varieties), baked brie, tikka masala curry paste (for making Indian Chicken Tikka Masala, which is my favorite--and Josh knows this paste stuff is good since the Indian grocery he used to live near had it and he got it a lot), Canadian vanila maple tea (which I love but am almost out of--I thought I was going to need to go back to Canada for it), and a nice selection of BLACK meditaranian olives (both pitted and non). So yay! Yummy, yummy food that we didn't know where to get before!

If I was creating the family name conventions for a society, everyone would have two family names, one which would be passed down through the female line and one of which would be passed down through the male line. So each child would get the female family name that had been in his or her mother's family forever, and the family name that had been in his or her father's family forever. Then upon marriage, the convention would be that each would drop the family name from the non-gender appropriate parent and take the other's remaining name.

The hyphenation thing has certainly become popular among our generation, but it has always struck me as a very short term solution, since it naturally leads to exponentially increasing last name lengths.

On a completely unrelated note, I think it's time for me to select a different default user pic. I may post a poll to that effect soon. Watch for it behind an LJ cut...
