Note to self: regarding woodworking

In the future, when cutting out pieces of wood for making furniture, pay attention to squareness of angles before, during, and after cutting.  Because that would be smart.  Because "measure twice cut once" only applies when you measure everything that needs measuring.

Anyhow, this isn't all bad though.  After cutting out all the pieces for the bookcase a second time (it will be a tad smaller than originally planned!), I have gotten pretty good at using the saw.  And I managed to use it by myself today.  Yesterday I heald while Josh cut.  Today, Josh was working on his thesis, so I worked on the bookcase alone.  I figured out that I could sandwich my wood between a bar stool and the fence, and clamp it in place, and then if I put my foot on one of the rungs of the bar stool, I could hold everything just so while I ran the saw.  Yay, go me.  Previously, we'd been sandwiching the wood between the fence and a scrap and clamping those together and then sandwich the wood between the bar stool and the other person's butt... thus making it a one person + one butt operation, rather than a one person operation.  Also, I found a better ruler to use as a fence--my 12.5x12.5 inch omni-grid sewing ruler.  It worked really well for getting things straight and square.  

However, it's still a bit frustrating to have had to redo so much of yesterday's work.  But enough of this.  Josh has made lunch and is calling to me.  Awww...

Now I get to be a picture whore.

We had a yummy candle light dinner tonight.  Yes, Josh got me a candelabra for Christmas.  It's pretty cool.

Also, had a nice chat with my dad tonight about his surgery yesterday and the bookshelf Josh and I are building.  It's not very often that I actually talk with him on the phone.  Sometimes I call home when he is home and my mom puts it on speaker phone and he listens in, but normally it's just me and my mom talking.  It was nice to have a long talk with my dad... and I think he had good input on the bookcase project.
