So, I was thinking about brewing my coffee and tea in milk instead of water to increase my calcium in take (I got my bone mass tested a while ago, and it's pretty badly below normal for a young woman). Anyway, my mom is concerned that this will be more calories and more fat, and that the calcium might denature when I boil it anyway. I'm not concerned about the more calories and fat if I am also actually getting more calcium, and Josh was quick to point out to me that calcium is an element not a chemical compound... but I'm pretty sure that the compounds in which an element is present and the element's ionization state can both make a big difference on the body's ability to make use of the element. Anybody have any insight for me? Does boiling milk reduce the calcium value you can get from it?
