So, my pay at Sandia is based on the number of units I have completed. At the end of the fall semester, I was 1 unit shy of the higher pay bracket. When I started work they told me they needed an official copy of my transcript (showing my spring classes) and then they would give me a raise to the pay they promised me. I sent an email to the registrar imediately requesting a transcript. They never emailed me back. Eventually I discovered that they need my signiture to release my transcript so I stuck that it the mail to them. It would have been really nice if they had emailed me back saying that they couldn't complete my transcript request without my signature. Even so, it was less that two (2) weeks into my internship when they sent in the transcript. I called them and verified this recently because I was having trouble getting ahold of the intern director to ask her about it. Well, I got a call from her today saying that she has recieved my transcript and my pay raise will be effective Friday. I've 5 fricking weeks into my internship and I've been being paid $3.50 less per hour than promised for all of it so far ($700 total) plus they made me start a week later than I was supposed to. The Sandia internal mail must be really slow if it takes 3 weeks to get my transcript from Mudd to SF to Sandia to her desk. Or maybe it's been sitting on her desk for three weeks. That would piss me off even more.
I'm not saying they aren't paying me well and all still, but cost of living is pretty high here and I chose to come based on a number they haven't started paying me yet. I'm supposed to go to the library and get some articles. I feel like curling up into a ball and crying. I wish I felt like there was something I could do about this.
Maybe I'll go home early today...
